In Canada, UnionPay cards are accepted at the shops, hotels, franchised stores most frequented by tourists. Over 90% of the local ATMs accept UnionPay cards for withdrawing Canadian Dollar. -
POS acceptance
In Canada, any merchant displaying the can accept UnionPay cards. However, some merchants may not have the signage displayed, so cardholders are encouraged to present their UnionPay cards and ask the cashier if they accept UnionPay.
Featured merchants include high-end apparel brands such as Canada Goose, Moose Knuckles, Arc'teryx, lululemon, Hermes, MaxMara, Brooks Brothers, Hugo Boss, Louis Vuitton, Coach, and Burberry;
luxury department stores including Holt Renfrew, Hudson's Bay, and Harry Rosen; jewelry and watch stores such as Tiffany & Co., Rolex, Cartier, Birks, Montecristo, SIBA, Royal De Versailles, Humbertown Jewellers; duty-free shops at Vancouver and Toronto airports; high-end car dealerships in Vancouver and Toronto; high-end Chinese restaurants in Vancouver; duty-free shops at Montreal and Calgary airports, and Save On Foods etc.
If using a co-branded card, it is recommended that the cardholder proactively request the cashier to choose the UnionPay network to ensure the benefits of the UnionPay
Note: Some Canadian acquiring institutions will route transactions through their default routes (without going through the UnionPay network), and are not subject to the selection of merchants or cardholders. The actual transaction network is subject to the actual transaction result.
It is recommended to use a UnionPay debit card for large purchases. Some issuing banks may have set consumption limits, please contact the issuing bank to resolve.

Cash withdrawal
In Canada, UnionPay cards can be accepted for withdrawing Canadian dollar at over 90% ATMs. Most ATMs offer Chinese interface. ATMs with the following logos on the machine or screen can all accept UnionPay cards:

Daily cash withdrawal limit from respective issuers and/or ATM may apply. Please consult your issuer on the possible cap on the amount. You may split your withdrawals into several times which comply with the limit(s).

If you deposit RMB into a domestic-issued Bank of China debit card with UnionPay logo only and withdraw CAD 1,000 at an ATM of Scotiabank in Canada, UnionPay will convert the CAD amount into RMB amount based on the market exchange rate of the day and the RMB amount will be debited from your according RMB account by the issuer immediately. The commission charge for cash withdrawal consists of two parts, i.e. a commission fee of RMB 15 charged by Bank of China, and a service fee of CAD 3 charged by Scotiabank. -
Charges
ATM commission fee consists of two parts:
(1)Service fee charged by the issuer: please consult the issuer for details.
(2)Service fee charged by the ATM acquirer in Canada: some ATMs will charge commission fee, which is charged by the local banks in Canada and which has nothing to do with UnionPay or the issuer.
Cash withdrawal via debit card results in a lower commission fee. -
Tips
Select PINs that cannot be easily guessed by anyone.
Never disclose your PIN to anyone who claims to represent the bank or the police.
Be alert to your surroundings before conducting any banking transactions.
Keep a close eye on your credit card during transaction to avoid any illegal activities.
If your UnionPay card has been stolen/lost, please inform the issuer immediately.
