UnionPay International announced on December 25 it worked with the Cooperative and Agriculture Credit Bank of Yemen (CAC) to issue Yemen’s first UnionPay card (card number starting with 62) and enabled local merchants to accept UnionPay cards for the first time. The two sides also signed an agreement to deepen business cooperation. Cai Jianbo, CEO of UnionPay International, and Salah S.Basha, President and CEO of CAC attended the signing ceremony.

According to the agreement, CAC will enable the acceptance of UnionPay cards by its major ATMs and merchants to increase the UnionPay card acceptance coverage to about 50% on the Yemeni market.

He said to keep up with the friendly cooperative relationship between China and Yemen, UnionPay International has been proactively pushing forward its cooperation with Yemeni institutions to optimize the local UnionPay card acceptance network and to support the trade and personnel exchanges between the two countries. In the future, UnionPay International will work with CAC’s local resources of network and customer base to deepen the two sides’ cooperation in card acceptance and issuance in a bid to provide better services to visitors and local residents.
