2014-11-03

Today, UnionPay International announces that over 6,100 ATMs operated by İşbank in Turkey begin to accept UnionPay cards, which further expands the acceptance of UnionPay cards in Turkey and provides UnionPay cardholders with more convenient services.

Among the non-state-owned banks in Turkey, İşbank is the largest one which possesses more than 1,300 domestic branches, 25 overseas branches and the largest number of ATMs in Turkey. All the ATMs accepting UnionPay cards have Chinese interface, bringing convenience to Chinese cardholders.

Turkey is one of the “top 10 tourist countries”. As of the end of August, the number of foreigners travelling to Turkey reached over 25 million and this figure is expected to reach 36 million by the end of this year. Among the tourist source countries, China, Russia and South Korea are larger contributors. To keep up with the increasingly intimate economic, trade and personnel exchanges between Turkey and those countries, UnionPay International is proactively optimizing the UnionPay card acceptance environment and enhancing card-using services in Turkey.

Currently, UnionPay cards have been accepted by 30% of merchants in Turkey which are mainly located in several large touristic cities like Istanbul, Ankara, Nevsehir, Denizli, Konya and destinations like Cappadocia, Istanbul Old City, Grand Bazaar, Urgup, Goreme and Pamukkale. UnionPay cardholders can now withdraw cash and make balance inquiry at about 11,000 ATMs in Turkey.

With the continuous expansion of UnionPay card business in the Middle East, more and more local merchants have joined the UnionPay acceptance network. In UAE, almost all merchants have accepted UnionPay cards; in Saudi Arabia, UnionPay cards are expected to be accepted by ATMs within the year. Among the 40 global business districts are Dubai Mall and many local hotels where UnionPay cardholders can enjoy exclusive discounts and bonus points.
