Cashless payment solutions provider REVENUE Group Berhad (“REVENUE” or the “Company”), Bloomberg: REVENUE:MK)(銀豐集團) is teaming up with UnionPay International (“UPI”) to provide Health Declaration Certificate (HDC) application for Malaysians travelling to China via its Super App – wanna App launched today.
HDC is a health code that specifies an individual’s health and vaccination status. Operated by China Foreign Affairs Ministry, the China Customs officer will validate the health code before foreigners can enter the country.
wanna App is a multi-feature mobile app with social messaging chat (wannaTalk), e-wallet service (wannaPay) and a food delivery service with several restaurants (wannaFood).
It also has bill payment, telco top-up, retail marketplace (I wanna) that allow users to have a better experience and artificial chatbot (Tao) features in their roster of services.
Through the partnership, the Super App will in future include UnionPay Virtual Prepaid Card as a payment offering, in addition to wannaPay offered now. The UnionPay Virtual Prepaid Card will allow users to pay at over 100K merchant terminals in Malaysia and at more than 31 million merchants globally that accept UnionPay Quick Response (QR) Code.
Datuk Eddie Ng Chee Siong (黄志雄), Managing Director and Group Chief Executive Officer of REVENUE said the Company is expecting a strong take-up for the wanna App.
“The rules for health code application in China arise due to the Covid-19 pandemic. wanna App will be the first and only Super App in Malaysia that enabled users to apply for HDC once it is roll-out.
“We target to have one million users within a year. We expect the take-up to be positive as 78.7% of our population are fully vaccinated and more travel borders may open up this year,” he added.
Mr David Chong (章文祥), Malaysia and Brunei Country General Manager of UnionPay International, said the wanna App further reinforces the partnership with REVENUE, which dates back to 2011.
“UnionPay takes a win-win approach towards partnership. This latest initiative to include a Health Declaration Code and a UnionPay Virtual Card in the wanna App will provide convenience and a seamless payment experience for our Malaysian customers. UnionPay has been at the forefront to deploy QR Code for payment at merchants in Malaysia and worldwide. Once international travel normalises, Malaysian residents will be able to scan QR Code for payment at their favourite travel destinations like Australia, China, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Singapore, United Kingdom and more,” he added.
