Take UnionPay Cards to Enjoy Convenient and Preferential Service in America
2015-09-29

Europe and America have become the favorite tourist destinations during the 7-day National Day Holiday this year. Whether you plan to take a regular trip or a self-driving tour in America, do remember to take UnionPay cards (card number starting with 62) with you to enjoy convenient and preferential payment experience. To date, UnionPay cards have been accepted by more than 90% of ATMs and 80% of merchants in America. In addition, quite a few ATMs have Chinese interfaces for easy operation, and many merchants provide special offers for UnionPay cardholders.

Merchants accepting UnionPay cards can be found all across America, and are more concentrated in tourists’ favorite destinations, including New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Hawaii. In America, credit cards transactions don’t support PIN verification and only signature-based payments are accepted. Cardholders can use UnionPay credit cards for purchases via signature verification. They can also use UnionPay debit cards in those merchants equipped with PIN pads. At present, UnionPay cards issued by most of the national and regional banks in China support no-PIN payments. If other banks’ cardholders need to use their cards without entering passwords, they can contact the corresponding issuers to cancel the passwords before going abroad.

UnionPay credit cards have been accepted by principal department stores, chain stores of big brands, supermarkets, convenient stores, restaurants and hotels in America, including well-known shopping centers such as Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom and Saks Fifth Avenue. In the meantime, UnionPay debit cards can be used for payment in the stores often visited by tourists, such as Mair’s Department Stores, Apple Stores, Best Buys, airport duty-free shops, and other merchants equipped with password keyboards.

Apart from enjoying convenient and secure payment service in America, UnionPay cardholders are offered a variety of exclusive privileges and gifts. UnionPay cardholders may visit the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York free of charge. Besides, four Premium Outlets and twelve Tanger Outlets provide free VIP discount manuals, which include discount coupons worth over 1,000 USD, for UnionPay cardholders. UnionPay cardholders can obtain a gift coupon worth of 25 USD upon spending 500 USD in Citadel Outlets, and a gift coupon worth of 50 USD upon spending 1,000 USD. Cardholders who prefer self-driving travels can rent a car in American AVIS at a discount of 20%.

Three things to be noted when paying with bank cards in America: First, it is a local market practice that few merchants post the brands of bank cards. Despite the absence of UnionPay logo, UnionPay debit cards can still be used in merchants equipped with password keyboards; and cardholders can consult cashiers about the usage of UnionPay cards. Second, dual-identification cards are not able to use UnionPay network for payment in America. To ensure that the currency exchange fees will not be charged and that various exclusive privileges can be enjoyed, we highly recommend cardholders to use UnionPay cards (card number starting with 62). Third, many American merchants will let consumers conduct the payment by themselves. Please remember to choose “Credit” when paying with UnionPay credit cards, and “Debit” when paying with UnionPay debit cards.

In 2014, the number of outbound tourists from China reached 107 million. In aggregate, China is the largest source of tourists for three consecutive years. The number of tourists visiting America in 2014 was 2.2 million. With a year-on-year growth of 21%, this increase is the largest one in the markets of long-distance travel (except for Canada and Mexico). In other words, China has become the sixth largest source of tourists in long-distance travel for America.
