UnionPay International launches the “updated” Emergency Assistance Service

The peak of outbound tourism during the Spring Festival is approaching. UnionPay International launches the “updated” Emergency Assistance Service, including Emergency Cash Service and Emergency Card Replacement Service. From now on, if their UnionPay cards (card number starting with 62) are lost, damaged or invalid on their trip abroad, and they are badly in need of cash or bankcard, UnionPay cardholders may apply for Emergency Cash Service for no more than the equivalent of 5,000 USD or for Emergency Card Replacement. 

In recent years, UnionPay International continues to optimize its overseas card-using service system, enriching the value-added functions of UnionPay cards. Now, UnionPay cardholders are entitled to Global Customer Service Hotline, Emergency Cash Service, Global Tax Refund services. Cardholders with UnionPay premium cards may also enjoy Global Assistance and Concierge Service, and have access to the airport VIP lounges at over 850 airports around the world. After shopping at over 300,000 merchants with tax refund signage in 38 overseas countries and regions, cardholders may use apply for tax refund via UnionPay cards. Chinese tourists to Europe may claim for tax refund after returning to China.

The “updated” Emergency Assistance Service launched this time meets cardholders’ urgent need for both cash and bankcard. Tourists may apply for the service by calling the hotlines of the issuing bank or UnionPay. Emergency Cash Service is for UnionPay cards issued globally, and the cash may be collected at the Emergency Cash Service outlets, or be delivered to designated locations. Emergency Card Replacement Service is for UnionPay cards issued outside mainland China, and the new cards will be delivered to designated locations via global express. Customers may get the cash or card in the same day of application.

Now, the UnionPay Emergency Cash Service covers over 400,000 outlets of Assist Card and MoneyGram across 220 countries and regions, as well as the outlets of partner banks in 20 countries and regions, including Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, Japan and Singapore. In mainland China, over 10,000 outlets in 124 cities provide the services for cardholders.
