  • Benin – Country of Oil Palms
    The Republic of Benin, a country in the west of Africa having its old name being Dahomey, borders on the Gulf of Guinea to the south, Nigeria to the east, the Niger to the north, Burkina Faso to the northwest, and Togo to the west. Porto-Novo, the capital of Benin, is the place where National Assembly is held, while Cotonou is the place where the government is located. The national economy mainly depends on Agriculture. Palm kernel and palm oil are two major export items of Benin. There is a national park in Benin, where you can closely observe animals on the African Savanna.   • POS acceptance
    Merchants with the signage of  all accept UnionPay cards. Since that some of the merchants have yet to put up the UnionPay signage, cardholders may show their UnionPay cards upon the till and inquire about UnionPay acceptance.

    In Benin, UnionPay cards are accepted for withdrawing West African CFA Franc at ATMs of SGB

  • Charges
    ATM commission fee consists of two separate fees: 
    (1) Service fee charged by the issuer: please consult your issuer for details.
    (2) Service fee charged by the ATM acquirer in Benin: some ATMs will charge commission fee, which is charged by the local banks in Benin and which has nothing to do with UnionPay or the issuer.

    Cash withdrawal via debit card results in a lower commission fee.
  • Tips
    Select PINs that cannot be easily guessed by anyone.
    Never disclose your PIN to anyone who claims to represent the bank or the police.
    Be alert to your surroundings before conducting any banking transactions.
    Keep a close eye on your credit card during transaction to avoid any illegal activities.
    If your UnionPay card has been stolen/lost, please inform the issuer immediately.
